A computer network is a group of individual computers connected by a communication channel. Every computer connected to the network can share and exchange information with another computer on the same network. Other computer related devices such as fax machines, printers, cameras and can be connected to a computer network.
Having a computer network allows for faster and easier access to files from any computer on the network. A network allows monitoring all activity on a computer at work, providing greater security. Computer networks make communication easier, so you do not need to leave your desk when you want to say something to a colleague working on the edge of the office. The computer network also allows access to hardware. For example, many computers to share a printer or scanner.
Computer networks are classified according to the type of connection method used. This method is known as “Ethernet”. Ethernet can be made either by physical Ethernet cables connected to any computer hardware or joined by a device called a router, or wireless routers that use high-frequency signals to communicate. Optical fiber is also used in some office networks. Different software system determines the form of data sent over the network.
